“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” \u00a0Luke 2:19<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

How do you respond to Christmas? There is great contrast in Luke chapter two where we read of the angels\u2019 singing, the shepherd\u2019s joy, and Mary pondering.<\/p>\n

Pondering?<\/p>\n

The shepherd\u2019s choose to express their joy with public praise, but Mary decided to have private meditation. To reflect in her heart what God had just done in her life. It\u2019s easy this time of year to participate in the public joy of Christmas. Carols, concerts, parties, programs. But, I\u2019m wondering (or call it pondering) if time spent in quiet reflection is what’s needed most.<\/p>\n

Reflection is part of leading ministry. We usually cover all the other bases: training, affirmation, feedback, and evaluation, but forget to do just what Mary did\u2014allow time for personal meditation on how God is at work in our life. And we often fail to ask those we’ve placed in ministry to do the same.<\/p>\n

This Christmas, take time for reflection. Reflect on your ministry and what God is saying to you\u2014about you.<\/p>\n

Ask:<\/strong>
\n1. Where do I see God at work<\/strong> in my ministry?
\n2. What can I learn about myself<\/strong> from my ministry? (Strengths, gifts, passion, etc.)
\n3. What is my greatest satisfaction<\/strong> in this ministry?
\n4. What is my greatest disappointment<\/strong> in this ministry?<\/p>\n

And lastly, ask yourself: Now what? What do I do now with what\u00a0I’ve\u00a0learned?<\/p>\n

Your ponderings may reveal a new ministry direction for 2020, or a renewed vision to continue on the path you\u2019re traveling. Slow down. Listen. \u00a0Take time to ponder. \u00a0Who knows what new things God may birth in your own heart and ministry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
