Try these seven suggestions when searching for people to serve in your ministry, from Thomas McKee’s book, The New Breed: \u00a0Understanding and Equipping the 21st Century Volunteer.<\/em><\/p>\n \u2022Ask personally rather than rely on announcements.<\/strong> Remember that you\u2019re not looking for someone to \u201cvolunteer\u201d; you\u2019re looking for someone to commit to a specific ministry position.<\/p>\n \u2022 Develop strategic recruiting partnerships. \u00a0<\/strong>Start the recruiting process by\u00a0building your network of connections or developing a recruiting team. A larger circle of influence will result in a larger pool of prospects.<\/p>\n \u2022 Recruit short-term project teams.<\/strong> The more specific the time frame, the more people you\u2019ll likely get to commit to a project. And short-term commitments might open the door to longer commitments in the future.<\/p>\n \u2022 Assume that a \u201cno\u201d means \u201cnot now,\u201d or \u201cnot this position.\u201d<\/strong> Think of a \u201cno\u201d as an open door to listen carefully to the reasons behind the \u201cno.\u201d \u00a0A “no” today may be a “yes” at a later time.<\/p>\n \u2022 Develop written responsibilities, or a position description, for each role.<\/strong> Don\u2019t fill any position until you find the person who matches what you\u2019re looking for.<\/p>\n \u2022 Recruit specific people for specific roles.<\/strong> Ask people to serve in significant areas of your ministry that matches what they love doing, their gift profile, and skill set.<\/p>\n \u2022 Hire staff who are equipping leaders<\/strong> \u2013 Your leadership team should be of people who know and live out the principles of inviting \u00a0and equipping volunteers for your mission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Need more volunteers?
