If only there was a\u00a0quick fix\u00a0to \u201cget more volunteers.\u201d Church leaders continue to ask what they can say or do to convince people to serve. What are the best recruitment methods? How do I get more people to say, yes? Inspiring people for volunteer service requires more than\u00a0a new sales pitch.\u00a0 Activating people into the life of the church involves making changes to the foundation\u2014the culture. Culture is the soil\u00a0that prepares people for service involvement.<\/p>\n

In their book Why Nobody Wants to Go to Church Anymore<\/em><\/a>, Thom and Joani Schultz\u00a0state the fact that every year 2.7 million church members fall into inactivity\u2014they go underground. And, as you\u2019ve probably already noticed, church attendance is shrinking. While 40% of Americans say they attend church every week, the actual number is more like 20%.<\/p>\n

Oddly, while the rate of church activity and volunteering declines, volunteerism overall in our country has held its own.\u00a0 Volunteering is actually very popular right now. It\u2019s become the standard for corporate America from Chick fil-A to Wal-Mart, from Target to IBM.<\/p>\n

David Abney, CEO of United Parcel Service, has\u00a0announced that their company has pledged\u00a020 million hours of global volunteerism and community service by the end of 2020. He stated, \u201cVolunteerism has always been an integral part of our company culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture is the key to raising the level of volunteer involvement.\u00a0 Does your church culture invite people to serve, or does it turn them off?<\/p>\n

Creating a Thriving Volunteer Culture<\/strong><\/em><\/a> is a new training experience from Group that examines what keeps people from engaging in the church. But more importantly, this course helps you discover how to facilitate a deeper connection to the church.<\/p>\n

This training examines:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0The four reasons people give for not wanting to get involved with church
\n\u2022\u00a0Barriers which may exclude people from volunteering
\n\u2022\u00a0On-ramps for quick service placement
\n\u2022\u00a0How to direct a volunteer to an area that matches their gifting
\n\u2022\u00a0The value of volunteer training, coaching, and reflection
\n\u2022\u00a0When it may be necessary to fire a volunteer, and how to do it
\n\u2022\u00a0How to help people experience God through their ministry involvement
\n\u2022\u00a0Leadership qualities and behaviors necessary to becoming an agent of change<\/p>\n

This course will be offered online<\/strong> starting September 18, 2018.\u00a0<\/strong>You’ll meet one hour a week, for six weeks, in a virtual classroom with a select group of ministry leaders. Registration is limited so we can support each other along the journey.<\/p>\n
