Shine On!
Use this devotion to start a conversation on how God equips us to let our light shine. You could use this as part of a discovery class on spiritual gifts!
Read John 5:15-16
“No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Give each person a light bulb.
As each person holds their light bulb discuss:
• What are things you receive compliments on?
• What do you enjoy doing?
• What makes you feel satisfied and joyful?
Now, use a permanent marker to write or draw on the bulb one or two things you do well. The things you’ve written are where you shine the brightest. How can you use these things to glorify God and to serve others?
Hold the bulb in your hand and pray: God, thank you for these gifts. Show me how to put them into service in a way that shines your light and draws people to your love. Amen.
Find a lamp to put your bulb in—and let it remind you to shine for Jesus!
